1. Plant the seeds
We start with seeds saved from our own garden in Blue Grass, Iowa. Alice and the family plant them when the ground is ready each season.
From our garden
How our kid-owned, family-run Iowa small business grows luffa from seed to finished sponge, one careful step at a time.
We start with seeds saved from our own garden in Blue Grass, Iowa. Alice and the family plant them when the ground is ready each season.
Luffa vines climb and fruit through the summer. We water, weed, and watch the gourds fill out until fall harvest.
When the gourds are ready, we cut them from the vine by hand. Harvest is once a year in the fall, so every batch is truly seasonal.
Dried gourds are peeled to reveal the fibrous sponge inside. We clean and finish each one by hand so it is ready for kitchen or bath use.
Finished pieces are packed in Blue Grass and shipped within the United States. Small-batch means we handle orders ourselves, not a warehouse.
